Meet the members of TIEMS Board of Directors

Diego Fernandez Otegui is the Regional Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)DiegoOtegui

He is a Ph.D. candidate in Disaster Science and Management in the School of Public Policy at the University of Delaware in the United States. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Torcuato Di Tella University, a graduate diploma in Social Communications from the Complutense University of Madrid, a specialization in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Andrés and a Masters degree in Strategic Studies from the Naval University of Argentina.

With almost 25 years of experience in emergency management and humanitarian affairs, he had the opportunity to participate in missions in various countries among which are worth mentioning his work in East Timor under the UN Transitional Administration and his role as Head of Base in Democratic Republic of Congo with Action Against Hunger. He has also served in India, Mozambique, Trinidad and Tobago and Spain.

He has lectured in numerous international conferences in the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Canada, Mozambique, Ethiopia and the United States among others. He has 7 years of experience as university professor of analysis and risk management and more than 15 years of experience as an instructor in various courses related to disaster management, humanitarian response and associated topics. He has also served as Director and Instructor in several courses for different law enforcement and security agencies.

He speaks fluently English, Portuguese and French. He was a volunteer firefighter in Argentina for 5 years. In his private practice he is an international consultant and founder and CEO of the Imara International Humanitarian Group.

He currently lives in the United States with his wife and two years old daughter. He plays the guitar, enjoys running and swimming and is a member of the United Methodist Church.
