Neil Dufty is TIEMS Regional Director for Australia, New Zealand & Oceania.
Neil’s specialisations are in community disaster resilience building, early warning systems, social media and emergency management, and community disaster education. He has done consultancy work for numerous clients across Australia and he has been project manager for several major projects including the review of warning systems for the Victorian Floods Review and the review of bushfire warning systems based on the recommendations of the Royal Commission into 2009 Victorian Bushfires (Black Saturday).
Neil has presented at several peak conferences including the Australian Floodplain Management Conference and the Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference. He has numerous published articles and several peer reviewed papers on community disaster education and emergency management evaluation, including in the Australian Journal of Emergency Management.
Through his extensive research, Neil is developing a new approach to community disaster education called ‘Learning for Disaster Resilience’. He is on review panels for several leading international emergency management journals as an expert in disaster education and communications, and building community disaster resilience. He is part of an extensive international learning community of emergency managers that use social media and other social networking mechanisms.
